Review of the OPPO Find X7 Ultra: one of the greatest flagships available

The OPPO Find X7 Ultra stands as a pinnacle of innovation and sophistication in the realm of smartphones, boasting cutting-edge features and exquisite design. With its powerful performance and stunning display, it offers an unparalleled user experience. Equipped with advanced camera technology, it captures every moment with exceptional clarity and detail. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra redefines premium mobile photography with its revolutionary imaging capabilities. Its sleek and elegant design, combined with top-of-the-line specifications, makes it a true flagship device that caters to the needs of even the most discerning users.

The OPPO Find X7 Ultra was announced in January, but you probably haven’t heard much about it for one simple reason: it’s only available in China. So why are we talking about it here? Because the Find X7 Ultra is a flagship phone that merits notice. Recently, OPPO invited  Gadgetzview to showcase the phone and its assembly process. We spent a lot of time testing the Find X7 Ultra’s Hasselblad camera system and additional functions, it became evident that this phone offers much more than simply outstanding pictures.

Rating: 8/10

Verdict

The OPPO Find X7 Ultra is easily one of the best premium flagship phones of 2024. The only problem is that not many people will be able to afford this device as it will not be released outside of China. Not only is the Find X7 Ultra one of the best cameras this year, but it also offers top-notch programming and top-notch performance.

Design and display

The OPPO Find X series is not available in India, but if you are familiar with the more expensive models in the series, like the Find X6 Pro (review) for example, you will know that the Find X7 Ultra is not all that different from the face of this premium phone removes it through and through It has premium curved glass and a two-tone finish on the exterior. On the variant we received, black leather covered most of the back and there was a white sleeve around the camera module.

Speaking of the camera module, it’s OPPO’s statement piece and it’s as big and bold here as it was on the Find X6 Pro. The camera bump is hit meaning the phone is placed forward when placed on a flat surface. Weighing in at 221 grams, the Find X7 Ultra is a heavy phone, especially top-heavy because of the camera setup.

The Find X7 Ultra’s display is also similar to its predecessor, featuring a 6.82-inch (3,168 × 1,440) LTPO AMOLED display and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz The screen is as good as they come, offering excellent, colorful viewing angles and sharpness. It can also have more light with a claimed maximum brightness of up to 4500 nits.

Cameras

Cameras are still at the heart of the Find X7 Ultra, and understandably so. OPPO’s partnership with Hasselblad has been gradually evolving since 2022 with the former seeking to create a smartphone camera system closer to achieving photography possibilities with Hasselblad’s SLR cameras It takes one more payand. The system features a 50MP Sony Lytia-900 primary sensor, a 50MP Sony IMX600 ultravid lens, and two 50MP telephoto lenses.

With 50MP sensors across the board, OPPO goes for stability in different modes and that’s what you get. The cameras shine in daylight conditions, providing excellent sharpness, balanced exposure, accurate colors, and dynamic range. We compared the device to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and the OPPO came out on top, especially in low light conditions. Taken in low-light mode on the comparison slider below, you can see that the Find X7 Ultra provides brighter images with better road detail and light fall control on the tree.

The Find X7 Ultra uses what the company calls the HyperTone Image Engine, an on-device algorithm that improves exposure levels in harsh conditions and delivers natural skin tones without over-sharpening all in real-time resulting in improved image clarity with very little noise.

Image capture is where the OPPO Find X7 Ultra shines. The two telephoto lenses can capture excellent images at 3x and 6x optical zoom, providing excellent detail and natural color in lighting conditions. The reason OPPO chose dual tele-cameras is because you get even better details between 3x and 6x zoom levels. While the photos taken look great on the Find X7 Ultra, I prefer the ones taken with the Vivo X100 Pro. In the following comparative image, the 3.7x portrait shot of the Vivo X100 Pro gives better colors especially skin tones while the Find X7 Pro relies on warm, orange tones but in both cases, the phone does a very good job with edge detection and background blur.

When shooting close-ups with the Find X7 Ultra, the camera switches to a wide-angle lens for macro mode and you get very acceptable results in daylight. There is a master mode for those who want more control when taking pictures. The Auto option in Master mode is a basic version that lets you tweak exposure and capture in RAW or RAW Max mode, while the Pro option lets you play with more settings like ISO, White Balance, manual focus, and more, etc. Check out some photos taken with Find X7 Ultra cameras.

Performance and software

In addition to offering a stellar camera, the Find X7 Ultra also offers superior performance. The unit we received is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with 12GB of LPDDRX5 RAM and 256GB of internal storage. In China, the phone will come with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Benchmark scores are as you’d expect from a 2024 flagship. The Find X7 Ultra scored over 2 million on AnTuTu, as did other Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered phones like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and in 12.

Coming back to software, the company ships ColorOS 14 based on Android 14 in China. Since we got a China unit, this phone came with some China-specific apps pre-installed. In India, we had to install the Google Play Store to download all the apps we know and love, including Google-specific ones like Gmail and Chrome.

Battery life

Like the display, things are nearly identical in the battery department. Oppo has packed a 5,000mAh battery in the Find X7 Ultra. The device supports 100W wired fast charging and there is a charger in the box. It takes about 31 minutes to charge the bundled charger from 20 percent to 100. The Find X7 Ultra also supports 50W wireless charging, but we couldn’t test the charging speed because we didn’t have OPPO’s proprietary charging pad around.

In our PCMark battery test, the Find X7 Ultra delivered about 10 hours of battery life, which is very low. The real-world tests had a similar issue where the battery drained quickly during the day and needed to be charged before bedtime. This is not a two-day battery phone and even getting a day and a half out of it with just one charge would be difficult during heavy usage. But it plays fast, so that’s nice.

Final verdict

OPPO Find X7 Ultra is as premium as it will be in 2024. Priced at CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs 69,000), the device offers a leather finish variant curved AMOLED display, and a premium look and feel powered by top-notch hardware with Snapdragon 8-backed Gen 3 chipset, which regularly offers smooth-water performance. But the star of the show is the Hasselblad camera system that delivers exceptional photography no matter the time of day. In many ways, the Find X7 Ultra stands as the best camera of 2024 on the likes of the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review) and Vivo X100 Pro (review).

Unfortunately, most people won’t get to experience this flagship since it’s exclusive to China. Oppo has no plans to launch the device in other markets but hopes the brand will change its mind with the next iteration in the future.
