According to reports, Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be manufactured in India and go on sale in September

Last year, the Pixel series was launched with a Tensor G3 chipset, up to 120Hz AMOLED display, and 7 years of OS updates. Now, reports suggest that Google has tied up with Dixon Technologies in the country for the expected launch of ‘Made in India’ Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models in the country. This is in line with a report in February that said Google was working to outsource its supply chain from China.

Let us discuss some key highlights of smartphones. Google has reportedly partnered with Dixon Technologies to develop the Pixel 8 series in India. Dixon Technologies has reportedly begun production trials. Expectations are that the first ‘Made in India’ Pixel units will arrive in September.

Google Pixel 8 series will be Manufucature in India

According to a report in Economic Times magazine, Google has started production of the latest Pixel 8 in India. This aligns with the company’s announcement from last year stating that the Pixel 8 lineup would be launched in India by 2024. According to the report, Dixon Technologies has reportedly commenced trials, and the first ‘Made in India’ Pixel units are expected to arrive in September. Dixon Technologies plans to manufacture 100,000 units a month and export 25-30 percent of machines manufactured locally.

The ET report states that Padgett Electronic, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dixon Technology from Noida, will manufacture Pixel devices in the country Meanwhile, the company recently signed an agreement with Taiwan-based Google product maker Compal Electronics.

The main impetus for local manufacturing appears to have been the advent of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for mobile phones. This is in addition to “the manufacturing costs provided by Dixon Technologies. Pixel phones have historically cost more for their hardware. It remains to be seen if the price of the Pixel phones will have any impact now that the phones are manufactured in India.
